There are three types of nickel sulfate: anhydrous, hexahydrate and heptahydrate. Commercially available nickel sulfate is mostly hexahydrate, with α-type and β-type variants. The former is blue tetragonal crystal and the latter is green monoclinic. crystallization. According to product classification, it can be divided into electroplating grade nickel sulfate and battery grade nickel sulfate. The former is used in the electroplating industry and battery industry. It is the main nickel salt for electroplating nickel and chemical nickel. It is also the source of metal nickel ions and can be used in electroplating. During the process, nickel ions and sulfate ions are dissociated; battery-grade nickel sulfate is one of the important raw materials for the production of ternary precursors. Different types of precursors have different nickel contents, which require different amounts of battery-grade nickel sulfate.
Nickel sulfate, also known as nickel vitriol, appears as blue or green crystals. It is an important nickel salt that is soluble in ethanol and ammonia.
Application fields The main application fields of nickel sulfate are as follows:
1. Used in the electroplating industry. It is the main nickel salt for electroplating nickel and chemical nickel. It is also the source of metal nickel ions and can dissociate nickel ions and sulfate ions during the electroplating process.
2. In the production of hardened oil, it is a catalyst for hydrogenation of grease.
3. Used in the pharmaceutical industry to produce catalysts for vitamin C oxidation reactions.
4. Used in the inorganic industry to produce other nickel salts such as nickel sulfate, nickel oxide, nickel hydroxide, nickel carbonate, etc.
5. In the printing and dyeing industry, nickel sulfate is used as a mordant for making phthalocyanine brilliant blue complexing agents and vat dyes.
Among the applications in the above-mentioned industries, electroplating, chemical plating and rechargeable batteries account for the largest usage, with battery-level usage accounting for approximately 50% of the total demand.
