Calcium sulfate, with the chemical formula CaSO4, is a common laboratory and industrial chemical. In the laboratory, calcium sulfate anhydrous is a desiccant, while calcium sulfate two hydrate is a common gypsum. But water containing calcium sulfate becomes permanently hard water.
Solubility Calcium sulfate has a relatively low solubility and is only slightly soluble in water, but soluble in acids, ammonium salt solutions and seawater. Calcium sulfate is neutral when dissolved in water.
Calcium sulfate has a wide range of uses:
1.Calcium sulfate dihydrate is gypsum, which can be used for chemical book fixation in surgery, production of dental molds and artificial bones, art creation and interior decoration;
2.Sometimes used as a desiccant in laboratories;
3.Food Grade calcium sulfate is a food additive used to precipitate tofu and bean curd from soy milk;
4.It is used as a soil conditioner in gardening.
