Product Description

Cobalt oxide (CO2O3) is a high-priced oxide of cobalt, with a theoretical cobalt content of 71.06%, an oxygen content of 28.94%, and a density of 6.079/CM3. It is a black amorphous powder that forms cobalt oxide (II,III) when heated. Cobalt oxide is an unstable compound that is unlikely to dissociate. What is commonly called cobalt oxide actually contains a certain amount of cobalt oxide (II,III). CO2O3 is stable only when hydrated, and this hydrate dehydrates to the intermediate cobalt oxide (II,III) at 265 °C. Cobalt oxide can be reduced by H2 to cobalt oxide (II,III) at 125 °C, CoO at 200 °C, and metallic cobalt at 250 °C. Cobalt oxide is insoluble in water and dissolves in acid to form the corresponding salt.
