Tert butanol (TBA), also known as trimethyl methanol, 2-methyl-2-propanol, etc., forms four isomers of butanol together with n-butanol, isobutanol, and sec-butanol. The pure product is a colorless crystal, and in the presence of a small amount of water, it is a colorless volatile liquid with an odor similar to camphor. It is hygroscopic, flammable, and has higher toxicity and anesthesia compared to other alcohols.

Tertiary butanol is an important intermediate of insecticides such as thiazide, hydrazine, and fenozide, as well as the acaricide pyridaben and the herbicide secbutanol. Sodium tert butanol is an important sodium alcohol application in the pesticide industry, mainly used for pyrethroid cyclization reactions.

Used as an organic solvent and chemical raw material, as well as a raw material for the preparation of drugs and spices. It is also used as a solvent and chromatographic analysis reagent for determining molecular weight.
