Product Description

    Tert-butyl alcohol (TBA, tert-butylalcohol), also known as trimethylmethanol, 2-methyl-2-propanol, etc., forms four isomers of butanol together with n-butanol, isobutanol, and sec-butanol. The pure product is a colorless crystal. When there is a small amount of water, it is a colorless volatile liquid with a smell similar to camphor. It is hygroscopic, flammable, and has higher toxicity and anesthetic properties than other alcohols. Soluble in most organic solvents, such as alcohols, esters, ketones, aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons, and can form an azeotropic mixture with water. 
     

 

Using Method:

1) Tert-butyl alcohol is an important intermediate for the pesticides buprofen, hydrazide, tebufenozide, etc., the acaricide pyridaben, and the herbicide c-butylamine. Sodium tert-butoxide is used as a kind of pesticide in the pesticide industry. Important sodium alkoxide applications are mainly used in pyrethroid cyclization reactions.
2) Used as organic solvents and chemical raw materials, as well as raw materials for preparing drugs and spices. It is also used as a solvent and chromatographic analysis reagent for determining molecular weight.
3) Often used as a solvent for coatings and medicines instead of n-butanol. Used as fuel additive for internal combustion engines (to prevent carburetor icing) and antiknock agent. As an intermediate in organic synthesis and an alkylation raw material for the production of tert-butyl compounds, it can produce methyl methacrylate, tert-butylphenol, tert-butylamine, etc., and is used to synthesize drugs and spices. Isobutylene with a purity of 99.0-99.9% can be produced by dehydrating tert-butyl alcohol.
